Caffeine Is A Gateway Drug

£60.00

For the Coffee Lover/Addict, or that special barista in your life?

A4 Letterpress Print. 210x297mm 270gsm Card, Vanson’s rubber ink. (sold unframed)

Sit back and smell the coffee with this print. Have several cups and enter into a caffeine jittery ol-daze, and admire the infinite random negative spaces and shapes created through the typeface intersections. What can you spot? Especially fun are the silver cursive billowing steam-like drifts, as if emanating from the classic stove-top percolator,. The silver over printing is reminiscent of the scroll work on a wrought iron gate and the big black G, doubles as a directional arrow. Where will the next cup take you/us?

The full use of 2-colour woodtype, allows experimentation with unusual and less common overprint effects.

Made by hand using period 2-colour wood type from Delittle of York - 1920’s or earlier (Delittle No.36 & 304)- yep that’s right, over 100 year old and a similar aged advertising block of coffee percolator (maker unknown). Hand printed on a 1960’s Vandercook SP15 proofing press, weighing in at over 350kgs and shipped all the way from NZ to London though originally of Chicago manufacture.
